As we head into the new year, now is the perfect time to reflect on how we can improve both our internal and external communications and keep them up to date.

Having a plan will make the process a lot smoother. Firstly, take a look at your current communications strategy. What works, and what doesn’t? Reviewing your current policy will highlight the strengths of your communications, in which you can take with you into the new year, and indicate areas of improvement.

When improving your internal communications, there’s no better people to turn to than your team. Setting up a virtual feedback box will empower your employees, value their opinion and support the communication strategies that benefit them the most. For guidance, ask if your current strategy is effective. Should more communication happen in person, or remotely? Should meetings be shorter? Does everyone get equal input?

Comparatively, asking your audience or clients for feedback will help you see their side of the picture. Through comment sections, polls and feedback boxes, engaging with your community will improve your external communication strategy. Ask yourself, are there new ways in which we can interact with our audience, such as video reels and podcasts? How can we connect with social media followers and invite them to comment on our posts? Is our customer service reliable?

If you’ve recently launched a new campaign, you may need to take a look at your video asset bank and filter out what doesn’t align with your new vision. Making sure your brand image is consistent will signal transparency and trust to both your audience and employees, and clearing out any outdated information will avoid confusion about what your company represents.

Take a look at what your competitors are doing too. Innovation is a must as we move forward, and sharing inspiration from other brands to your employees will give them a better understanding of the current state of the market and a vision for what the future holds.
